Ranthambhore National Park
Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve (640 sq. km) lies in Rajasthan's eastern district of Sawai Madhopur. It is probably the best place in the world to see wild tigers and is the only dry deciduous tiger habitat in the world. This kind of habitat makes it much easier to find and observe tigers in their natural wild habitat. Rathambhore is rich in wildlife, with over 35 reptile species, including crocodile, 320 bird species, leopard, caracal, jungle cat, rusty spotted cat, spotted deer, blue bull, Indian gazelle, wild boar, sloth bear, jackal, Indian fox, striped hyena, and the elusive tiger.
Although spotting tigers is not guaranteed, the scenery is exceptional. The 10th century fort built by the Mughals dominates the landscape, with the crumbling ruins of temples and mosques dotted throughout the reserve. Stay in the opulent en-suite Raj-style tents of the Ranthambhore Bagh, enjoy the knowledgeable staff, great food and cultural entertainment.
Below is a sample itinerary:
Day 1: Delhi to Sawai Madhopur
Arrive at Sawai Madhopur train station at noon. You will be meet at the station by the camp jeep. On arrival at the camp, our naturalists will discuss your entire program with you. After lunch, depart for an excursion to the one thousand year old Ranthambhore Fort. Evening tea and refreshments will be served at Camp, followed by a delicious dinner.
Day 2: At the Park
Wake up very early morning for a wildlife safari to the National Park by jeep. Return to the lodge in time for a hearty breakfast in the garden dining area. You can then relax in the grounds or head to the Dastakari kendra or Old city for a dose of the local culture. Leave for another safari, by
jeep, after lunch. Return to the camp for evening tea and refreshments, followed by dinner.
Day 3: Return to Delhi
Wake up very early morning for a safari to the National Park by jeep. Return to the camp for breakfast. Relax and check out in time to catch the train back to Delhi.
